Set up by Decree N°98/198 of 08/09/98 as part of efforts to restructure the Telecommunications sector in the wake of lon N° 98/14 of 14/7/98 to liberalize the said sector , Cameroon Telecommunications(Camtel) is a State corporation with a share capital of 50.000 million CFAF entirely owned by the State of Cameroon. It offers a broad array of telecommunication services ocross the country , having taken over the activities histherto carried out by the foomer Department of Telecommunications of the ministry of P&T and those of the foomer International Telecommunications of Cameroon (INTELCAM), namely the international telephone network, Internet services and corporate communication..
CAMTEL is placed under the sypervisory authority of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. (MINPT).
Duties
| Study,install, operate and maintain the infrastructure needed for providing telecommunications services across the country and for connectiong national networks to foreign ones; |
| Carry out commercial activities; |
| Foster cooperation with other national and international operatiors of the sector. |
